Columbus T., age 22, P.O.W. in Ohio

Very cold. At night an interesting debate on the subject, — “After the Southern Confederacy establishes her independence, should foreign immigration be prohibited” took place. The feeling of the house is very much against its toleration — ¬†very few are in favor of it. My position, as chosen on the question was Negative. After the Society adjourned conversation waxed warm on the subject all over the room, and lasted long. ¬†*(Worthy of Record: The Civil War and Reconstruction Diaries of Columbus Lafayette Turner, Ed.
