Columbus T., age 22, P.O.W. in Ohio

Monotonous with common rumors, or usual ‘Grape’ (grapevine). Preaching at night by Col. Caudle of Kentucky (Old Bap) from Isa. LV. He preached a free grace offering to all, which is contrary to the doctrine of his church, but which is the sounder for that. He seemed to reprobate their d[o]ctrine of election and reprobation, and declared if he thought such to be the case he would never again take the pulpit, which was sensible, however he clings to their sing-song method of delivery, which spoils. He said he could not tell by his learning where his text was, still he reads tolerably well.  *(Worthy of Record: The Civil War and Reconstruction Diaries of Columbus Lafayette Turner, Ed. Kenrick N.
