Cornelia H., age 25, North Carolina

Mail came, nothing new. The armies at a stand still. Mrs. Vance came to board. I find her a pleasant lady, has one child, a boy 9 years old. I doubled some thread today, sewing thread, some stocking yarn that old Mrs. Parker sent home. She had only spun 7 broaches, the rest is in wool. Mr. Henry & all hands at work at dam, he superintends but is not stout enough to assist much. I had a letter from Sister Jane too. All well.  *(Fear in North Carolina: The Civil War Journals and Letters of the Henry Family, Eds. Karen L. Clinard and Richard Russell, used with permission.)
