Cornelia H., age 25, North Carolina

I knit all day on a sock for Mr. Henry. He wants to start to the salt works Wednesday. He is gone to Asheville today. Pleasant day. Bets McKinnish brought 9 1/2 lbs. of wool today. It made 25 yards, & got more wool 13 3/4 lbs. to spin coarse. Mrs. Norman here this evening also Mrs. Fanning a little while. Willie not well, has a cold. Finished one sock, only knit the foot & part of the heel. I can’t make my living by knitting.  *(Fear in North Carolina: The Civil War Journals and Letters of the Henry Family, Eds. Karen L.
