Cornelia H., age 25, North Carolina

A very warm day. Stanaphor Jones’ wife & Mrs. Plemons spent the day here. Mrs. Plemons’ husband has gone to the war. I made Fannie & Jinnie an apron apiece, some that was left by of the britches. Needing more rain. Another company of volunteers camped at the hotel place Sunday night. The negroes cooked their bread for them.  *(Fear in North Carolina: The Civil War Journals and Letters of the Henry Family, Eds. Karen L. Clinard and Richard Russell, used with permission.)
