Cornelia H., age 25, North Carolina

A pretty day, nothing new going on. Mr. Henry is busy at the mill, began to plough in the field where the old Alford house stood. Dora, Matt & I started to old Quinn’s to get grapes. We found Mr. Henry up there & went where they were ploughing & then went on & got some excellent grapes. Not quite ripe. Quinn bought us a jug of cider this evening. All are well.  *(Fear in North Carolina: The Civil War Journals and Letters of the Henry Family, Eds. Karen L. Clinard and Richard Russell, used with permission.)
