Some volunteers staid here last night. Cavalry from Cherokee. Capt. Hays Company. Only three going to Cherokee to see their friends so they are to leave soon. Mr. Henry is laying down before the fire, has been asleep. That is his place in winter Sunday. I want to go up to Quinn’s this evening to get the last of grapes as we will soon be visited by jack frost. It is 1 o’clock, no dinner yet. Instead of going to Quinn’s, Mr. Henry & I went up by the hotel place & down to the spring & tolled some old sows and pigs in the pen. Mr. Henry has run a fence across this corn field above the house & has the killing hogs up.
