Cornelia H., age 26, North Carolina

I finished Charlie’s pants before dinner and after dinner cleaned up the smoke house. Emptied the salt in barrels. Mrs. H. Cook & Cordelia Cook were here a short time this evening. Little Bill Cook has a discharge from the army. He is too young & has been sick of late a good deal. Is sick now. Mr. Henry went to Asheville this morning, got a lb. of soda for 1$ & 1 lb. of Spanish brown 50 cts. No news from Richmond. I see in the papers that Jack Scaife of Unionville is a prisoner.  *(Fear in North Carolina: The Civil War Journals and Letters of the Henry Family, Eds. Karen L.
