Henry S., age 25, Michigan

Dor and I took Jimmie and the stoneboat and went to the creek and got ½ barrel of water this morning.  I finished digging around the peach trees and began cultivating again this forenoon, finished it this afternoon.  We had strawberries today at meals for the first time.  If there don’t come a rain soon, they will be a short dry chop.  Went over to Neill’s and borrowed their corn planter, I hop[sic] to get the fodder corn in tomorrow.  Fred and Jessie came over this evening and made in a call.  The gnats are begining[sic] to bite in a great way.  Been very warm a good share of the day.
