Finished the dresses & washed the children & put them on in the evening. They look very well for the colors. I looked for Mr. Henry all the evening. He did not come. I wish he would. Betsey did not weave any. After dinner went home, will be back Sunday evening or Monday morning. I am very tired this evening. I have done sundry mending tonight & knit some. Sam & the others have killed three hogs this week. They were not very fat.

I cleaned upstairs today. Much warmer than it has been for several days. Hanes carried down the faulty apples. Boyd will have to sleep up there when Mr. Henry gets home & Betsey in the side room. Mail brought no news this morning of importance. Mrs. Branton sent Branton clothes by the mail carrier (Vic). I wrote her a letter this morning to send in the clothes. Betsey cut out the two dress patterns this evening. I dampened it & dried it & her & I made the skirts & sleeves by 9 o’clock. I can finish them easy tomorrow. The next two dresses will be red & black stripe, red dyed with sassafras bark, plum bark & alder buds. ’Tis not a pretty red, too dark & the next dresses will be red broom sedge dye & black. They will none of them be pretty as the colours are nothing extra but they will keep them warm. Bets McKinnish brought home some thread today, the rolls she got 3 weeks ago. She is doing no good spinning this fall for us.

Good day at school. Justin was cool. Went 2 Renee’s with Ashley and Zach. Zach was very grumpy. Dad picked me and Ashley up at 5:30. Went 2 his house and ate fast. Picked Renee back up and went 2 see “Scream 2.” Good. Spent night at Ashley’s. Jerry came and chilled. I slept on the floor.

Betsey gets on very well with the weaving. I fill quills. Jinnie & Atheline spin every morning till it is warm enough to plow & haul corn. Jinnie has no shoes yet, only pieces. Betsey stays here at night whilst she is weaving. I made some tape trimming today for me a pair pantletts & some for Zona a pair & finish the pantletts after supper (my own).

All I can do is picture myself all over these guys. Tim, Justin, Albert, even Zach sometimes! So frustrating. Sandra took me to work with Courtney and David. 🙁 Out at 5:30. Eddie picked me up. Had Subway. Did geometry. T.V., Ashley, Karen. Mad at school ’cause schedule changes.

I made Willie’s other skirt today. I sewed some on it last night. I went to Presley’s this morning to get him to make the rest of the negro shoes. Hanes went along with the sole leather. He says he will make them as soon as he can as he has a sick child. A heavy frost this morning but no wind. Betsey Jamison came this morning & began to weave. The stripes run round the skirt. It is blue mixed (light) & black. She is weaving now. I want to get the children a dress each made this week if she gets enough wove to cut it out. It breaks a great deal. Boyd did not get the temples done till late this evening. An old man named Hunter stays here tonight. He is nearly dead with cancer. He is an awful sight. I could not look at him. He is hunting a cancer Dr. that is in this country about Cathy’s Store I think. He will leave soon after breakfast in the morning.

My crush was lessened a bit today ’cause Justin wasn’t as affectionate or something. Went 2 Ashley’s with Zach and Renee. Dressed up at school and got tons of compliments. Mom came. Did homework. Dad came. Ate 2 much. Did homework. Showered. Talked 2 Karen. So eager for a guy…

Mrs. Jamison came today & fixed the cloth in. I sent Hanes to Asheville today to get some alum, got none. I wanted to dye them madder red for the children’s dresses. I will now have to have some other colour as alum is not to be had. I had to try the new wheel last night, spun over a cut I think. I got a letter from Mr. Henry saying he would be at home the last of this week. I hope he may for I want him to get through with his hogs soon. He was on his way to Greenville. I made Willie an unbleached selicia today. Hanes brought the mail. I got a letter from Lou & one from Sister Frank. They were both very well. Some other letters came to soldier’s wives. I know they are glad to hear from their husbands.

Good, busy day. Told Karen I have a crush on Hooks. Damn, it’s official and I hate that. Went 2 Renee’s with Renee and Zach. Mom and Em came. We all went 2 “SteinMarts” and shopped. Got Eddie’s X-mas present at “Office Max.” Did homework and ate. No guitar ’cause of so much homework.
