Went 2 Renée’s after school. Later, Sean, Tim, Eddie and Chris came. Chris wasn’t that bad, but I didn’t enjoy it. Had a miscommunication with Dad, but he said, “It ain’t nothin’ but a thing.” :) Did homework and dinner. “Party of 5.” Sandra bitched about petty shit. Duh.

Beautiful day. Went to music lesson at 9:30. Lots of interruptions. Made Mrs. Marsh mad. Three ’phone calls and 3 door calls. When I got home we didn’t even do the dishes but got ready to leave at once for Pickett. I put the things in the car. George is going with us. Left a little after 10:00. I told him stories on the way up and he told me some. Got to Pickett about 12:30. We came for a meeting that D. was to speak at but there was some mistake and it isn’t till tomorrow. Some C.C.C. boys waited on us at dinner and then G. and I went for a walk. We met some cows. When we came back we drove over to the Blake’s. G. and I sat in the car and read. I read “Little Shepherd.” Then we drove around to the office and Daddy talked to a man. Then we drove up on the hill to see Jack Holt and his bride and to give them a wedding gift. G. and I stayed in car and read. Then we left (about 3:30). We ate our lunch practically all the way to Jamestown where we stopped at a Drug store and got some ice cream. Then drove home. G. and I sang till dark and then I told him a funny story. Home about 7:00. Beautiful night. Few leaves on trees. I read while M. prepared supper. About 15 till 8:00 we ate. Daddy had been to town. After supper I finished “Little Shepherd.” Quite sad at the last. I’m going to send away for it and “The Witness.” To bed.

Sawed some wood this morning and then hitched up and drew some up to the house. I went to the mill and got 50# of graham flour. Kate and I nearly finished work on our cupboard, putting on the doors etc. Taught this afternoon as usual. Went to the College building this evening where the students and teachers met to organize a literary society - was forced to sit as literary chairman. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey invited us into their rooms for an informative social, where we had a good time.

Mrs. Jamison & Betsey spent the day here. Rather cool & windy with rain in the evening. Mr. Henry went to G. W. Candler’s sale, got wet coming home. Things went very high. He bought nothing, only a chain. Betsey took home some rolls to spin, white for linsey for the children, some dresses & sacks for me & them. I finished the shirt after dinner & began another one. Mr. Henry sent for the mail yesterday by old J. Night. He got a letter from Harrie saying E.P. Night was dead. They were cleaning guns in the ordenance Dept. & a gun in the hands of another man went off killing Night instantly & wounding another man after passing through Night’s head. Mrs. Knight takes it very hard. I felt very sorry for her & her little ones.

Up, and all the morning at the office. At noon home to dinner, and thence out with my wife and girle, and left them at her tailor’s, and I to the Treasury, and there did a little business for Tangier, and so took them up again, and home, and when I had done at the office, being post night, I to my chamber, and there did something more, and so to supper and to bed.
