Did some cleaning up stairs. Mrs. B. came over in P.M. Later ironed and pressed dresses. Mrs. B. went to WSCS. Found out about circles. Carrie stopped had her chk. etc. Disappointed as not our same circle, Mrs. B. too. Lo took Carrie’s money to her in eve.

Beautiful and warm. Using new vac. works fine, getting things straightened some. Wrote to Mary then her letter came. Had 10 ’phone calls, a broken cable or something. Got tired of answering that all wrong number. Went to Elgin in eve. Uncle W in nursing home.

Very hot. Cleaning living room. Edna called. Wanted me to go to funeral home for Mr. Sears and then to Dundee. Hurried of course, then Mrs. B. called, went for short cake. She going to F.W. this A.M. Then to Myrtie’s. Lo and I moved wood box. She generated, so late getting home. Drove to cemetery to water box as very dry from wind. Then she went to office to do things, late of course.

Lo up ahead of me, made beds later. Drove down and brot steaks cake, etc. home and left car. Another beautiful day, predict rain tomorrow. However it came this PM. We went to cabin. Lo wanted to broil charcoal steaks on grill. It rained just a bit and stopped so managed to cook them under a tree. Had to eat inside of course but got along fine. Watched TV and just as were going home it rained.

Up early as usual. Lo out to cabin. We picked Carrie up. Stopped at church with clothing for drive. Lo to office then home. Pulled weeds and couldn’t mow because of moisture until later. Did the back before we etc. Later she did front. Went to cabin where she did a lot down at the barn. Helped what I could.

Washed, Mrs. B. came for coffee, stayed until after 11:30. Clothes dried nicely. Lo shopped. I had groceries to put away, fixed pot, and meat loaf for eve., and asparagus. Ole came, told all about trip to Bobs and his place. Later Lo shopped at Piggley’s.

Dyed a spread; couldn’t start the big spread as not enough dye. Mrs. B. had hair done, then to card club. She came over the wall and Edna took us to Amy’s in the eve. A good crowd and good time; played Bingo. Came home at 11:00. Had made a few cookies early P.M. Lo came at 5:00 went to funeral home for Mrs. Shufelt. Saw Elinor.

Washed sheets and spread off N.W. bedroom. Cooked chicken and made rice pudding for nite. Did a little outside work. Didn’t do much at cabin only meal and dishes etc.

Mrs. B. called and wanted to come over. Men painting trim on house over there, we had coffee. When she went home to work I up stairs to fix one bed and wipe up etc. Fixed cookies to bake tomorrow. Couldn’t get eggs so went directly to cabin. Jim there had mowed. Ate with us then home. Oscar still gone wish he’d come back. Came in hurriedly and up to see Bess. Mrs. Hill there so didn’t ride.

Baked, coconut cookies, brownies and molasses ones. Went to Mrs. B.’s for coffee in the A.M. Men painting trim on house over there. Lo and I to feed cats and back here to eat. Geo came up and ate with us. Left here right after six for Beloit to K.J.’s graduation. 425 grads. Rained as we were going in and so hot thot I couldn’t stand it. Came back to Pink’s. Marian made coffee and ice cream. Got home before 1:00.

Just all in Saturday A.M. a little sick. Lo stayed down for lunch. Didn’t do much work. Mrs. B. came for coffee. In P.M. had a nap and felt much better for it. In bed reasonably early.

Up early as usual. Lo and Geo out to cabin, nothing new there. Picked Carrie up and came back just reading etc. Lo had a little rest. Took Carrie home at 2:00 and went to cabin to work. Cleaned up garage — wood pile. Put everything on truck ready for Jim in the morning. Inky had kittens in big crock while we were working. Came in at 8:30 Pink and Marian here. Left at 10:00.

Rainy and miserable, very windy. Over to Mrs. B.’s. Later in P.M. did some washing, hung on porch. Up stairs to rest, fell asleep. Cooked meat patties. Geo came about 5:00 so went out. Back early both tired so to bed early.

Clothes on porch dry so glad I washed that much as rainy all day today. Mrs. B came over, lonesomer than ever because of weather. Cooked for cats. Read for her a letter! Had made cookies. Cracked pecans Loie had given her, some bad. Straightened drawers. Still rainy. Lo called Beloit. Leaving in the A.M. with Don for the north to take over a job. Hope it works out.

Did a little ironing. Went to Mrs. B’s. Cleaned all around up stairs in P.M. Lo had a ’phone call from K.J. wanted her to come for her in the late eve. as Thurs. is to be her day off. Left from cabin. Was she ever glad we came. She so happy to come home with us. A little late getting to bed, Lo had bath.

We up as usual, K.J. slept until 8:30. Up to eat later to shampoo and bathe. Went down town got a card for the Sitters anniversary. Ate and drank coffee most of the day. Rainy. Out to cabin to eat and on to Northbrook. The rain held us up and couldn’t make very good time. Arr. home at 10:30. Talked with Amy Lee, Amy K., Mrs. B. and Edna. K.J. called Amy to thank her for gift. Amy K had tonsils out.

Miss K.J. hope she’s happier. Rained off and on coming home. Saw a wreck other side of Half Day. Weren’t delayed but a minute. Mrs. B. came for coffee. All had a nice time last nite at Russels. Was so tired but baked cookies (white), had soft boiled eggs for supper. Had some trouble with car battery at cabin, reached town car stopped. A man on street fixed it, then to Stubs. He too tightened it thot it O.K.

Went to Mrs. B’s after 10:00. Stayed an hour. She going to Ruth’s until Mon. nite. Lo stayed down for lunch. I mending etc. when the Wiens came. Ida and I had coffee. J had cookie. Car started fine, when we got to Helen’s with mail etc. dead. Lo went in and called Kenny Hunt. He cleaned and tightened it. Seems O.K. A shower coming home.

Picked Carrie up as usual. She stayed to church. We to the cemetery — home to do various things. Lo mowed back yard before church, and the front in P.M. After taking Carrie home went to cabin and cleaned the porch. Lo washed screens wainskoting [sic] and tile and waxed tile. Really looks fine. I turned hose on rug and chairs and wiped chairs dry. Worked until after [?]. Brot lots of things for Lo to wash.

Did a big wash in a hurry as Lo wanted to go to Elgin. She shopped and I got clothes in from yard as it looked threatening. Picked Zella up and went to nursing home. Uncle W. was glad to see us but seems unhappy. Vernon came so got to see him too. Stopped at Maggie’s she had gotten home from week end in Chicago. Had 2 invitations to eat supper but had to get to cabin cats hungry. Took clothes off upper porch. Glad as it rained this A.M.

Cooked meat after breakfast and did many things as I was due for my hair at 10:30. Lo took me down and picked me up shortly after 12:00. Ironed this P.M. A fuse blew so waited for Mishler so very late eating and getting back. Then I had more lite trouble.

A bad storm early A.M. Didn’t hear it, back porch soaked, cleaning up everything, going to throw rug down basement slipped and fell all the way down, cracked rib bruised and strained. Sat a while before going up, spied an animal on top step, proved to be baby squirrel. When I tossed boots down it jumped out. Lo came home for car later. Took me to the Dr. Very uncomfortable and sick later. Mrs. B. came in eve. Stayed while Lo went for Karen. Came before ten.

K.J. was glad to be here and we were glad to have her. Edna came quite early had ’phone calls (from Carrie F., Marvel). Ole came in P.M. K.J. had seen David and told him I had a fall. K.J. got material for blouse and pants so was busy. Millie and Mrs. Sprinkle came. Lo and K.J. went to care for cats so I started dinner, had most of it ready. Folks came right after six. At nine they left with K.J. Good that Loie didn’t have to go. Before that all went down the basement and saw the squirrel he’s still there.

A nice morning. Got out of bed quite easily, took a sponge. Mrs. B. came for a while. Lo came at noon. No ’phone calls. I called Emily as I had her card and one from class. No visitors until eve. when Kay came. Had so many things to tell.

A beautiful A.M. Lo up early, had bake sale. Didn’t rest quite as well. Couldn’t get to sleep, too much talking I guess. Lo picked me up at 3:30 and took me to the Dr. Had to wait quite a while, saw Sylvia Nolan with her baby, sweet little girl. Dr used tape on chest for relief. Rode to cabin.

Didn’t go with Lo to Carrie’s but she came after church. We had waffles. About 3 or later Lo took her home as she was getting ready to go to open house at Freeman’s. A beautiful place, lovely people and a wonderful party. Sure didn’t feel very good but got thru the day and night.

A pretty day. No wash day for me. Have gotten several cards thru mail. Mrs. Gould today. She’s quite a joke.

Mrs. B. came over for an hour or so. I woke up so early was really tired by noon. Closed all windows etc. Very threatening and later had quite a bad storm. Didn’t last too long. Had a little snooze. Lo came about 5:00 and out to cabin. Didn’t stay long as Lo wanted to do nails.

Mrs. B. cleaning her bed room so couldn’t take time to come over. However later she did with lettuce from Lilly’s garden. Edna called, she washing. Olive called a very lengthy conversation. Really passes the time.

Didn’t do too much tired chest etc. Bess came in P.M. She stayed until Lo came. Lo had to call G.B. as he had her car while his was being fixed. We brot it then we 3 went out together to cabin. Get along pretty well riding.
